KDP Royalty Calculator

Amazon pays two different ways depending on how you price the book, and both have a deduction most calculators ignore: a delivery fee on ebooks, and printing cost on paperbacks. This works out what actually reaches your account per copy.

Text-only ebooks are usually well under 1 MB. Illustrated books, comics and photo books can run 20 MB or more, which is where the delivery fee starts to matter.

Delivery fee− $0.30
Net royalty$6.69

The 70 percent band runs $2.99 to $9.99. Outside it the rate drops to 35 percent.

Ebooks. Price between $2.99 and $9.99 and Amazon pays 70 percent, minus a delivery fee of $0.15 per megabyte of the converted file. Outside that band the rate falls to 35 percent and no delivery fee applies. That cliff is why a $12.99 ebook usually earns less per copy than a $9.99 one.

Paperbacks. Amazon pays 60 percent of the list price on its own stores, then subtracts printing. Printing is a $1.00 fixed charge plus a per-page rate, except black ink books of 108 pages or fewer, which are billed a flat $2.30. Because printing comes out after the split, long books have a hard minimum price and KDP simply refuses anything below it.

Rates are Amazon.com (US) figures, checked against KDP's own published examples on 25 August 2026. Amazon changes these without notice and they differ by marketplace, so confirm in your KDP dashboard before you commit to a price.
