Book Pricing Calculator

A single royalty figure hides the thing that decides a price. Seeing every price at once makes the cliffs obvious: where the 70 percent band ends for ebooks, and where a paperback stops covering its own printing.

The highlighted row earns most: $9.99 returning $6.69 per copy. Notice what happens above $9.99, where the rate falls to 35 percent and a higher price earns you less money per sale.

The highest-earning price is rarely the highest price. For ebooks the curve peaks at $9.99 and falls off a cliff immediately after, because the royalty rate halves. For paperbacks the curve rises steadily, but everything below the minimum price is refused outright.

Earnings per copy are only half of a pricing decision. A lower price sells more copies, and on Amazon volume also feeds ranking, which sells more copies again. Use this to rule out prices that lose money, then pick between the survivors on strategy.

Rates are Amazon.com (US) figures, checked against KDP's own published examples on 25 August 2026. Amazon changes these without notice and they differ by marketplace, so confirm in your KDP dashboard before you commit to a price.
